I’m thrilled you stopped by!
In hopes of sparking your interest in my books, here’s a bit about me and my writing.
Imagine… I was former-suburbanite-turned-bison rancher. Things went sideways during our first roundup and I found myself chasing a half-dozen bison yearlings that escaped. I drove over hill and dale in my high-top conversion van with my kids in the back watching a Disney movie. Needless to say, the movie was short-lived. A real-life adventure was going down and we were right in the middle of it. True story!
Years into our bison ranching adventures, along came a miraculous experience with a bison calf that led to Lola Is Lost, my first children’s picture book. I also have a nonfiction children’s book in the works that was birthed from a film my husband and I produced for our bison attraction. It details the comeback of the American bison from near-extinction in the late 1800s and the unlikely band of heroes who saved them.
This is just a taste of my life, which informs my writing. Truth is stranger than fiction! I’m pretty sure my third grade teacher in parochial school coined that phrase after having me in her class for about five minutes.
Although I’m a research geek and my imagination knows no bounds, I don’t live vicariously as some writers do, creating stories from pure imagination and research. I write what I’m passionate about – romance, suspense, faith, adventure, and bison — often with a side of humor. I’m a devout and imperfect follower of Jesus and strive to convey his grace, character, truth and power in my stories.

I grew up in Boulder, Colorado. As the ninth of ten girls, born to a nurse and a firefighter, day to day life was brimming with estrogen-laced commotion, thrilling firefighting stories and hospital tales.
An avowed tomboy, I wanted nothing to do with the drama some of my sisters cooked up. My main interest was real-life adventure. When I wasn’t in school, I was busy exploring the streets and back alleys in what I viewed as the tiny kingdom of Boulder. My insatiable curiosity and penchant for adventure took me and my friends all over town on our bikes, and occasionally on the double-decker buses that frequented Pearl Street, not far from my home.
A few decades ago, my husband and I fell down the proverbial rabbit hole and began raising bison. Because raising four rowdy children was a lot of fun, but what can I say? We’re adrenaline junkies. We came to love the furry beasts and eventually developed a bison attraction where we shared their amazing comeback story and offered an up-close interaction with them for our guests.
Now that our children are grown, I’m chasing new dreams. After spending several years hosting the bison-related events with my talented husband in Colorado and then Oklahoma, we settled in Wyoming. I’m writing books and he’s writing music, and we collaborate on various creative projects.

Young animal lovers will be riveted by Lola, a bison calf who suddenly faces winter alone in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.
Will Lola find enough food and outsmart the predators that abound without the protection of her mama and the rest of the herd? This timid young calf is sure to inspire young readers as she develops the confidence to face life’s difficulties with courage and strength.
Based on a true story of a real bison calf owned by the author — TR Fischer!
TR and her husband have owned bison for twenty-five years. During that time, they ran two bison attractions in Colorado and Oklahoma where guests could interact with their herd and learn all about these amazing animals.
